About the test

This test measures levels of 3 hormones that often shift during the transition to menopause

Your test results will help you better understand if the symptoms you are experiencing could be related to hormonal changes during the menopausal transition.

Estradiol

Estradiol (E12) is the strongest of the three naturally occurring estrogens. Although it is the primary female hormone, estradiol is found in all sexes. The ovaries produce estradiol. As one of the main sex hormones responsible for ovulation, it is vital to reproductive health and pregnancy in people who can get pregnant. After menopause, estradiol levels decline significantly. Estradiol also plays a role in developing bone and female-associated sex characteristics and is needed for optimal brain and reproductive system functioning.

Follicle-Stimulating Hormone

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland. In women, it stimulates the growth of eggs in the ovaries. FSH levels increase with age as a result of diminished ovarian reserve.

Luteinizing Hormone (LH)

Luteinizing hormone (LH) is produced in the pituitary gland. In women, it helps control the menstrual cycle and triggers ovulation to occur.

Questions and Answers

What is an at-home perimenopause test?

The Home Test Box At-Home Perimenopause Test measures the levels of three hormones that change as you transition to menopause. These hormones include:

  • Estradiol
  • Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
  • Luteinizing hormone (LH)

How are estradiol, FSH, and LH related to perimenopause?

The changes during perimenopause are linked to hormone changes, particularly fluctuations in estrogen levels.

During the reproductive years, estrogen levels increase and decrease depending on where a woman is in her menstrual cycle.

The hormones that control estrogen levels are follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).

FSH causes the ovaries to produce estrogen. When the estrogen level reaches a certain point, the brain signals to the pituitary gland to stop producing FSH and to make a surge of LH, triggering ovulation.

The follicle left over after ovulation makes progesterone, in addition to estrogen, to prepare for pregnancy. When these hormone levels increase, the levels of FSH and LH decrease. If pregnancy does not happen, progesterone levels go down, menstruation happens, and the cycle starts again.

What is perimenopause?

Perimenopause, also known as the menopausal transition, is the period of time leading up to menopause when the body naturally stops being fertile.

The onset of perimenopause can vary among women, with some experiencing it in their 40s and others as early as their mid-30s. Symptoms such as irregular periods may occur during this transition.

What are the symptoms of perimenopause?

Perimenopausal symptoms vary, but here are a few common ones:

  • Irregular periods
  • Hot flashes and sleep disturbances
  • Mood changes
  • Vaginal and bladder problems
  • Decreasing fertility
  • Changes in sexual function
  • Loss of bone
  • Changing cholesterol levels

What is required to take an at-home perimenopause test?
